Funding
The majority of our scholarship funds are sourced from community development funding provided by NYC Council Members. These funds are allocated through the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD).
The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. DYCD supports New York City youth and their families by funding a wide range of high-quality youth programs and community development initiatives.
In June 2022, Mayor Eric Adams appointed Keith Howard as the Commissioner of the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). Commissioner Howard was particularly impressed by the achievements of Kamora Freeland, our Youth Aviator, who made history as the youngest female African-American pilot in NYC at just 17 years old. He invited The Young Airmans Association to discuss how DYCD could leverage community development funding to enhance youth aviation programs and increase access to aviation opportunities for more young people in NYC.
