The Commitment

Our Mission

The mission of The Young Airmans Association is to create equitable pathways to aviation careers by providing flight and drone training to youth  in underserved communities. Through accessible education, mentorship, and industry-aligned certification programs, we empower the next generation of pilots and drone professionals to thrive in high-demand, high-impact roles across the aviation and technology sectors.

Our Vision

We envision a future where youth  from underserved communities have the skills, access, and opportunity to lead in the skies and beyond. Through world-class drone and flight training, The Young Airmans Association is committed to building a diverse, inclusive aviation workforce

strategic intervention

Private Pilot License

Our Flight Academy Pilot Program is designed for students who want to pursue a career in aviation. This is the FIRST and most important step in our strategic intervention.

The program includes flight training and ground school, This will put our youth in a position to achieve their FAA Airmans Certificate (Private Pilot License) This achievement will place our young men and women in a superior position to be marketable in the airline industry that is in need.

Commercial & Instrument Ratings

Instrument Rating is designed to teach pilots how to fly in inclement weather or low visibility conditions. Pilots will be able to fly using only instruments, this is the MOST important RATING needed toward their ATP License.  Commercial Rating is designed for students to be able to fly for a living.  These ratings will be the next achievements.

Flight Instructor Certification

Flight Instructor Certification , our pilots will acquire this to become FAA Certified Flight Instructor. This will allow our pilots to now have the first entry point into the airline industry workforce. They will be able to teach and acquire the needed 1500 flight hours which is required to obtain their ATP license (Airline Transport Pilot Certificate). This is the highest level of aircraft pilot certification issued by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) in the U.S.

workforce development

Step 1: FAA Private Pilot License (PPL)

  • Once students achieve their PPL, they are eligible to:
    • Instruct on the ground in our After School Aviation Programs & Flight Academy's
    • Become Advanced Ground Instructors
    • Become Part 107 Drone Instructors
    • Earn income

Step 2: FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)

  • Once our pilots achieve their CFI rating, they are eligible to:
    • Instruct new student pilots on the ground and in the air
    • Become employed in our After School  Programs & Flight Academy's
    • Instruct and train independently earning income
    • Build hours

This creates a “train-and-teach” model that supports both financial independence and skill-building

Remote Pilot Certification

Our Drone Academy program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and regulatory understanding needed to operate drones safely and professionally.

The program entails:

  • Drone Ground Lessons via Zoom
  • Drone operating lessons will be done to NIST standards
  • Drone operating lessons will take place outside at a designated drone location (weather permitting)
  • Upon completing the required drone training a timed NIST test will be administered.

Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate of completion as an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (for U.S. commercial drone operators).

commercial Drone Operators

The drone industry is one of the fastest-growing technology sectors, creating new job paths that require lower barriers to entry compared to traditional aviation careers.

Commercial drone operators in the U.S. have access to a rapidly expanding range of job opportunities across multiple high-demand industries.

Workforce development

Youth from underserved communities have significant opportunities to enter the growing field of commercial drone operations, which offers accessible, high-paying careers without the need for a traditional four-year degree. With a relatively low barrier to entry—such as obtaining the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate—young people can gain the skills needed to work in industries like agriculture, construction, real estate, public safety, and media production.

Drone operators are in demand for jobs such as aerial surveyors, infrastructure inspectors, photographers, and emergency response support. These roles not only offer pathways to economic mobility but also build valuable technical and entrepreneurial skills. For underserved youth, drone training programs provide an equitable entry point into the technology and aviation sectors, opening doors to future careers, small business ownership, and leadership in an evolving, future-ready industry.
